Remote Technology-Enhanced Learning: COVID-19 & the Future

An International Online Conference presented by the Society of Surgical Simulation and Barts Cancer Institute

COVID-19 has inevitably impacted all branches of medicine and surgery, with educational events being the first to be cancelled following a joint policy statement by the four Royal Colleges of Surgery of UK in early March. Institutions have turned to alternative digital solutions to continue delivering high-quality education globally.

In response, the Society of Surgical Simulation and Barts Cancer Institute are hosting the first international online conference in surgical education. Professor Bijendra Patel, a leading expert in surgical education and founder of the society, will discuss e-learning and how we can adapt our educational methods in times of crisis. Renowned keynote speakers, including Sir Alfred Cuschieri and Professor Shafi Ahmed have been invited to give their insight on trending topics of surgical education and spark intriguing discussions. We also welcome scientific oral and snapshot presentations in various surgical topics. A live laparoscopic skill box trainer training session will be available to anyone interested on how practical skills can be taught and assessed electronically, allowing long-distance learning for surgical skills.

The best presentation will gain an award and all accepted abstracts will be published in the Journal of Surgical Simulation.
